PANTONEVIEW Color Planner Autumn/Winter 2016/2017

Reveal: An Exploration of “Real” and “Unreal” Color

Multi-discipline forecast provides global color direction across womenswear, menswear, activewear, cosmetics, interiors, industry and graphic design.
Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, introduced Reveal, the Autumn/Winter 2016/17 edition of PANTONEVIEW® Colour Planner. Looking at color as a total language, this multi-platform forecast offers seasonal inspiration, key color direction and suggested color harmonies for women’s and men’s fashion, activewear, cosmetics and lifestyle, as well as industrial and graphic design.

Just as the current direction in lifestyle fashion reflects a genuine polarization, color stories for 2016/17 display a contrast between color that is "real" and "unreal", absent and present and a mixology of what is in between. We are divided between more modest and unpretentious shades and stronger, more saturated tones that make a bold statement. For those in the middle? A third platform of color that connects and bridges our desire to be sober or intoxicated, quiet or loud – or both at the same time.
“We find this idea of absence and presence, obscuring and revealing, very relevant not only when it comes to color, but also in the way we live our everyday lives,” said Laurie Pressman, vice president, Pantone Color Institute.

"On one hand, there is this wish to return to the simple, honest and unassuming, and on the flip side, a continuing presence of maximalist and a deep desire to stand out and be seen."

PANTONEVIEW Colour Planner contains eight trend palettes as well as key seasonal color direction.

  • Black—newly appreciated as a prestige color, black is the pulsating force behind the forecast and the perfect canvas on which other colors are revealed.
  • White—appearing in cool and warm guises, white is important because of its properties as opposed to its actual color.
  • Grays—essential to the palette, grays stretch across a variety of hues, warm and natural, muted and hard.
  • Green—this season, greens take two directions: the first is a more yellowish and olive-oil-led direction while the second is cooler, sometimes glassy, but also more mineral, cool and Nordic.
  • Yellow—reminding us of light and radiance, yellows are important this season because of their warming presence and their effects on surface and texture.
  • Orange—now suffused with spicy hues, shades in the orange family display influences of caramel, cinnamon and saffron.
  • Purple—penetrating all levels of design, purples, in a variety of berry colors are now a lifestyle as opposed to a fashion shade and is critical to this season’s palette.
  • Blue—becoming more sophisticated, blues move away from the more classic indigo shades to those that are infused with gray or green.
  • Brown—from nutmeg and tan to the red infused winey red browns, the browns continue to be very important across all materials and surfaces.
  • Red—a safe option for those looking to add bright color, red is a well-received and well-understood pop color that is being combined in new ways.
  • Pastels—pastel shades leap from nuanced neutrals to stronger and more assertive color.
  • Metallics—metallics remain important; however this season they are as pragmatic as they are decorative, combining with light or texture to enhance, bring movement and textural dimension.
Published bi-annually, 18 to 24 months in advance of the season, the PANTONEVIEW Colour Planner is based on the PANTONE FASHION, HOME + Interiors Color System, the most widely used and recognized color standards system for fashion, textile, home and interior design. The book is produced by a team of leading visionaries from all over the world with expertise in different disciplines, providing comprehensive color-direction across multiple design areas.

Within each of the season’s directional color palettes, a general introduction outlines the colors included and the philosophy behind them. In addition, a specific breakdown of each palette highlights harmonies, suggested color combinations and suitable patterns, fabrics and products according to end use. For added convenience and usability, at the end of each palette section, there is a printed version of each PANTONE Fashion, Home + Interiors color featured in perforated swatch form and 1" x 4" detachable cotton strips. The PANTONEVIEW Colour Planner Autumn/Winter 2016/17 also comes with a DVD containing static images of photos used to illustrate the seasonal themes, a movie version that has music to set the unique mood of each individual palette, a printed color card where the forecasted colors are arranged by color family as well as by trend palette and a poster-sized overview of the season.

Pricing and Availability

The PANTONEVIEW Colour Planner Autumn/Winter 2016/17 is available immediately for $750 from Pantone at www.pantone.com or from PANTONE distributors nationwide. Salone Del Mobile.Milano 2015: Furnishing, Lighting and Workspace Excellence

The 54th edition of the Salone del Mobile will fling open its doors from
Tuesday 14th to Sunday 19th April, at the Rho Milan Fairgrounds.

Quality and innovation, along with major collateral events and a comprehensive, wide range of goods are the ingredients that make the Salone such an unmissable event.

With over 2,000 exhibitors, more than 200,000 m2 of exhibition space and thousands of products making their market debut, the Salone del Mobile is the acknowledged sectoral international benchmark event year after year, attracting more than 300,000 visitors from over 160 countries.

The Salone is open to operators each day from 9.30am to 6.30pm, and also open to the general public on the Saturday and Sunday.

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, split into three style categories:
Classic, Modern and Design, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and SaloneSatellite, will be flanked by the biennial Euroluce / International Lighting Exhibition in Pavilions 9-11 and 13-15 and Workplace3.0/SaloneUfficio, dedicated to the workspace, in Pavilions 22- 24.

Euroluce, the exhibition devoted to excellence in the lighting world, will showcase the very latest in outdoor, indoor, industrial, event/show, special use and hospital lighting solutions, lighting systems, light sources and illumination technology software and consulting. To mark the 2015 International Year of Light proclaimed by UNESCO, architect Attilio Stocchi has conceived "FAVILLA. To every light a voice" for the city of Milan - an installation/event telling the story of and exploring the essence of light.

Workplace3.0 is an exhibition with an innovative concept, devoted to design and technology for planning the workspace in the round. Workplace3.0 will bring together the top proposals from the furnishing world for office, banks, insurance offices, post offices and other public spaces, seating for offices and public spaces, acoustics, flooring and coverings, lighting and office accessories as well as audio-video technologies and communication.

"The Walk", a huge installation on exhibit inside the Workplace3.0 pavilions, was conceived by internationally renowned Italian architect Michele De Lucchi as an area for showcasing ideas and design triggers for planning workspaces in their many different contemporary interpretations. New activities and working modes generate new workspaces and new design requisites for "inhabiting them", with offices increasingly becoming a hub for social interface, meetings and living side by side.

Another event - IN ITALY - created by the architectural practice Four in the Morning to a design by architect Dario Curatolo, will feature 64 Italian manufacturers and a select group of designers, planners and architects, who will tackle the theme of products, design and planning. The firms involved will be presented innovatively through the medium of film, with the curator taking the audience through a virtual exploration of Italian know- how and uniqueness and the production processes behind each object. The film will become an installation, which in turn will become an App used to explore five apartments - in Lecce, Milan, Rome, Venice and the Sienese hillside - done up in five completely different styles.

SaloneSatellite will be back in Pavilions 22 and 24 - the same as Workplace3.0 - with free public entry from Cargo 5. Now in its 18th edition, the exhibition is dedicated to the theme "Life Planet", dovetailing with that of EXPO 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. SaloneSatellite is an unrivalled meeting point for 700 young designers selected from all over the world, businessmen, architects, interior designers and the press. The exhibition showcases the work of designers under 35, and offers them a chance to be selected for the 6th annual edition of the SaloneSatellite Award for the 3 best prototypes on exhibit, relating to the product categories on show.

The Salone del Mobile can be followed on the social networks and through its website and the online magazine (www.salonemilano.it), its official Facebook and Twitter pages, a dedicated YouTube channel, Flickr gallery and profiles on LinkedIn and Pinterest.

The official hashtags for the 2015 edition on Twitter @iSaloniofficial are:
#iSaloni | #Euroluce | #Workplace | #SaloneUfficio | #SaloneSatellite

For the second year running, the Salone is renewing its ties with the Municipality of Milan, Councillor for Employment, Economic Development, University and Research, Cristina Tajani, and the city's design schools, which led to the setting up of the Welcome Project at the 2014 edition. Salone del Mobile information points at various focal points around the city will be manned by 100 students, on hand to provide visitors with information on how to negotiate the city, on the trade fair itself and the palimpsest of events in Milan organised by the Department.

The Salone del Mobile is also one of the supporters of the exhibition "LEONARDO 1452- 1519" - the greatest Leonardo da Vinci exhibition ever held in Italy - which will launch on 15th April 2015 at Milan's Palazzo Reale, just after the Salone opens. Promoted by the Municipality of Milan, the project was conceived and carried out within the framework of a partnership between Palazzo Reale and Skira going back over more than 15 years, and curated by Pietro C. Marani and Maria Teresa Fiorio - both prominent Renaissance art historians.

For the third year running, an agreement between the Salone del Mobile, Milan Fairgrounds and Milan's transport agency ATM - means that visitors to the Salone will be able to acquire a combined ticket, valid for public transport on Milan's urban network and for entry to the trade fair.

Trenitalia high-speed Frecciarossa, Frecciabianca and EuroCity trains will stop specially at Rho Fiera Expo Milano during the Salone. Frecciarossa and Frecciabianca will make three stops during both the morning and the afternoon, as well as two EuroCity train pairs to and from Switzerland.

Thanks to an agreement with SkyTeam Global Meetings, exhibitors, operators and journalists taking part in the Salone will be eligible for discounts of between 5% and 15% on flights, depending on flight class. Discounts are available on all international and intercontinental return flights to Milan, operated by SkyTeam member airlines between 9th and 24th April.

Negotiations are currently under way with Alitalia for discounted airfares on national flights to and from Milan during the Salone.

The Salone is also making the real-time Salone del Mobile.Milano 2015 App available for free download on iOS and Android devices, enabling people to plan their visits and orientate themselves at the fairgrounds.

Heimtextil Trends 2015/2016

Heimtextil Takes a New Approach: 'Theme Park' and Trend Prognosis for 2015/2016 Presented

A new trend concept, new themes and a new kind of presentation: the Heimtextil management team introduced the new Heimtextil 'Theme Park' in two discussions broadcast around the world live on 1 September 2014.

On behalf of the Heimtextil Trendtable, which is made up of six international agencies, Anne Marie Commandeur of Stijlinstituut Amsterdam presented the new large-scale project and outlined the Heimtextil trends for 2015/16.

Trendtable members Mayouri Sengchanh of Exalis/Carlin International and Felix Diener also offered a prognosis for the textile interior-design trends of the coming season. Thus, representatives of the press and Heimtextil exhibitors had the chance to obtain an initial insight into the new trend themes around four and a half months before the international trade fair for home and contract textiles opens its doors from 14 to 17 January 2015.

'Experience' is the superordinate Heimtextil trend theme for 2015/2016. "Textiles are the perfect vehicle for inspiring, sensory and interactive experiences", explained Anne Marie Commandeur of Stijlinstituut Amsterdam during the conference at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre. The conference also provided the setting for the presentation of the new Heimtextil Trend Book. "In both the book and the 'Theme Park' at the fair, we present a selection of spectacular projects, which can be experienced with all the senses."

For the first time, the Trend Book comes with 'interactive print' elements, which enable readers to obtain supplementary information in digital form by scanning the parts of the book marked and then watching animated images on their smartphone or tablet. Additionally, the trend prognoses are supported by an extensive website with detailed background information and project presentations at www.heimtextil-theme-park.com.

Four Design Themes Show New Ways

The first part of the Trend Book revolves around social, political, technological and artistic themes - all key themes that have a decisive influence on designers. The second section looks at trends that are set to have a direct influence on interior design and home textiles in 2015 and beyond. To this end, the trend experts proposed four design themes: 'Sensory', 'Mixology', 'Discovery' and 'Memory'. The third part of the book is devoted to color innovations and presents worlds of color corresponding to the four design themes.

Heimtextil Theme Park 'Experience' Trends 2015/2016

THEME I - Sensory
The well-being factor Designers create new products for the home, which appeal to our growing interest in tactile and sensory impulses. They find solutions via the link between science and design and thus increase our feeling of well-being. To this end, they use intelligent textiles with built-in responsive technologies that, for example, react to changes in the source of light. Inspiration also comes from the beauty and wellness industry. Super-sensory fabrics draw on the huge variety of tactile effects that excite our senses: light, feminine and transparent. As a sensory contrast, fabrics with polished surfaces or varnish-like lustre and uniformity are used together with paper surfaces and oily finishes.

THEME II - Mixology
Inter-cultural exchange Variety is trumps. Cultural fusion has given rise to a modern ethnic heritage. From now own, experimentation and the interaction of different identities is the name of the game. Patterns, prints and colors collide almost chaotically with each other. African tribal design meets 3D rave motifs, retro with futuristic, digital with organic. At the same time, people are enthusiastic about recycling and product hacking. New applications are found for waste materials with due consideration being given to material properties. The result is valuable design objects and - no less important - the feeling of independence from conformity of any kind.

THEME III - Discovery
Predicting the future Designers are taking ever greater account of our planet's valuable resources. They look over the shoulder of astrophysicists and investigate the properties of lunar rock and meteorites, the haptic qualities and dark strength of which are particularly fascinating. Observing the cosmos and the micro-cosmos, they come across dark, light-absorbent space black and stellar coruscation. Light plays a key role in this connection: it dazzles and illuminates, it sketches and plays tricks with the eye.

THEME IV - Memory
Reflection and re-evaluation People strive for a simpler, purer and more ethically correct way of modern life: away from consumption stress and rigid must-haves - towards favourites and a genuine feeling of well-being. The materials that decorate life together in the home will be honest, useful fabrics, e.g., denim, wool and linen. Familiar patterns stimulate the capacity for recall. Tomorrow's designers will combine handicrafts and tradition with an innovative sense for modernity whereby their software abilities are an additional benefit. Thus, handicrafts and technology can join forces to create new, timeless values.
